It's also called Canon and Gigue in D or Canon in D. Neither the date or circumstances of its composition are known (dates range from 1680 to 1706) and the oldest surviving manuscript copy of the piece dates from the 19th century. Pachelbel's Canon is also famously known for being the song used by brides on their wedding day when they walk down the aisle 👰💍 In 'Memories', Maroon 5 take Pachelbel's eight-note harmonic progression (I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V), set it in B major and repeat it throughout the song, as in the style of the original.
